NEMO-Online No 2 : Contribution theme.

Research groups CERMAA, ICONEA and PLM have the pleasure of calling for papers for the second issue of NEMO on the theme of ‘Modality in all its forms’. All papers welcome including Occidental forms of modality and should respect editorial terms and conditions.
Papers to be sent to Richard Dumbrill (rdumbrill[[[]]]nemo-online.org) and Amine Beyhom (abeyhom[[[]]]nemo-online.org).

Thème de NEMO-Online N° 2

Les centres et groupes de recherches CERMAA, ICONEA et PLM ont le plaisir d’annoncer que le deuxième numéro de NEMO sera consacré à “La modalité dans tous ses états” et acceptera les articles concernant tous les aspects de la modalité, y compris dans toutes ses déclinaisons occidentales, sous réserves de conformité aux normes de la revue et de suivi du protocole d’édition.

Les articles doivent être envoyés à Richard Dumbrill (rdumbrill[[[]]]nemo-online.org) et Amine Beyhom (abeyhom[[[]]]nemo-online.org).

PLM is now an associate of ICONEA/CERMAA and NEMO-Online

We are delighted to inform that the Paris-Sorbonne University hosted research group PLM (Patrimoines et languages Musicaux) is now an associate of ICONEA (University of London) and CERMAA (Beirut)  for the editing and the publication of NEMO-Online. We favour our links, internationally, with other research centres for the best enlightenement of ethno- and archaeo-musicology, in excellence.

Nous avons le grand plaisir d’annoncer que le groupe de recherche Patrimoine et Langages Musicaux (PLM) de ‎l’Université de Paris-Sorbonne s’est associé aux groupes ICONEA et CERMAA pour l’édition et la ‎publication de NEMO-Online. Nous sommes en faveur d’un élargissement des liens de NEMO avec des ‎groupes de recherches reconnus internationalement, dont l’apport ne peut être que bénéfique pour la ‎promotion d’une musicologie de qualité.‎

Frédéric Billiet et François Picard, professeurs de musicologie à l’Université de Paris Sorbonne, rejoignent le Comité de rédaction de Nemo-Online : leurs compétences viennent compléter celle des autres membres en apportant des expertises sur, notamment, la musique ancienne et en ethnomusicologie analytique.

Frédéric Billiet est le directeur de l’UFR (Unité de Formation et de Recherches) de Musique et Musicologie de l’Université Paris Sorbonne, et François Picard est le directeur de l’équipe de recherche Patrimoines et Langages Musicaux (PLM) au sein de l’université.

Nous leur souhaitons la bienvenue.

We are delighted to welcome two new members in the Academic Board of NEMO-Online. Professor Frédéric Billiet, musicologist and Professor François Picard, ethnomusicologist, both from the Université de Paris Sorbonne.

Frédéric Billiet is an expert of early music, and director of the UFR (Unité de Formation et de Recherches) of Music and Musicology at the Université Paris Sorbonne. François Picard promotes analytical ethnomusicology and is an internationally renowned expert of Chinese music and director of Patrimoines et Langages Musicaux (PLM), a Université Paris Sorbonne research group.

 

A Bibliography for Musical Scales, Acoustics, Temperament and Tuning

NEMO-Online has published this new bibliography of Musical Scales, Acoustics, Temperament and Tuning. It is intended as a  complement to other specialized biographies also published by NEMO-Online, and is not exhaustive.

It mainly includes references to ethnomusicological debates on the problematics  of the scale, instrumental tuning and  perception of  intervals.

Music perception is temporarily restricted  to topics directly relevant to scale or temperament.

The Modality Bibliography has been enriched with references on Jazz Modality – We are working on extending these references in view of a further discussion about “lazy” and “studious” modal jazz, within the frame of a larger discussion on modality, which shall soon be published on NEMO’s site…

An addendum  to the Bibliography for Ancient Greece and Rome is available on the “Antiquity” page (“Bibliography > Modality > Antiquity“), and comprises over 180 entries for modern commentaries.

 

This completes the previous bibliography (on the same page) for the sources of the music of the Antiquity.
