• The 2022 Frances Densmore Prize awarded to NEMO-Online Chief Editor and CERMAA Director Amine Beyhom

    We are delighted at NEMO-Online and CERMAA to announce that Amine Beyhom, Chief Editor of NEMO-Online and Director of the CERMAA, was awarded the 2022 Frances Densmore Prize by the American Musical Instrument Society for his 2020 Dossier on the ʿūd in NEMO-Online. The award announcement stands: The Frances Densmore Prize is awarded annually for the best article-length publication in English that furthers the goals of the Society. (English) We are very pleased to announce that Scott Marcus, Professor of North Indian and Middle Eastern music and performance practice, Arab music theory, North Indian folk music (tuning and temperament) has joined the Academic Board of NEMO-Online. Scott Marcus is the Founder and Director of the UCSB Middle East Ensemble and the Music of India (sitar) Ensemble. He is a member of UCSB’s Center for Middle East Studies and past Board member of the Society for Ethnomusicology and the Society for Asian Music. (English) A new bibliography  for “Microtonal” Music and “Microtones” has been added today as a complement to the “Temperament and Tuning”  Bibliography previously published on NEMO-Online. Western musicology classifies intervals smaller than half of a tone as microtones. Other cultures differ. This is a comprehensive bibliography of Western works on Western music. Some references to Japanese music, due to its close relation to contemporary Western Music are included.
